Temple of Seti I Markaz Al Belina, Egypt
In the Temple of Seti I in Abydos, there is a detail of an ancient Egyptian mural that is believed to be an out-of-place artifact, not unlike the infamous Dendera Light.
Created during the reign of Seti I, the original carving translated to “He who repulses the nine enemies of Egypt.” It was later remade by Rameses II into “He who protects Egypt and overthrows the foreign countries.” The plaster he used has eroded away over time, and the result was quite interesting.
Among ordinary hieroglyphs such as the fly, the mural shows what seems to be a helicopter, as well as airplanes and a submarine. In some circles, these hieroglyphics have been interpreted as a representation of modern technology in antiquity, the knowledge perhaps given to the Egyptians by extraterrestrial entities.

The 15 Best
LEGO Sets For Adults
|
|
Back when the company was started way back in 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen — the company’s visionary founder — could not have possibly known what a worldwide phenomenon LEGO would become. Yet here we are, nearly a century later, and the plastic building blocks are some of the most popular toys around the world. They’re so ubiquitous, in fact, that they’ve also spawned a series of video games,
television shows, and major motion pictures.

Pandemics That
Changed History
|
|
This Past Wednesday Marked Two Years!
The first reported case in China appeared November 17, 2019, in the Hubei Province, but went unrecognized. Eight more cases appeared in December with researchers pointing to an unknown virus.
Many learned about COVID-19 when ophthalmologist Dr. Li Wenliang defied government orders and released safety information to other doctors. The following day, China informed WHO and charged Li with a crime. Li died from COVID-19 just over a month later.

A Guide to Martin's Naming Conventions
by Kristi Bronico
If you’ve ever shopped for a guitar, you’ve probably found that each guitar manufacturer has different methods for naming their various models. And with so many acoustic guitar models on the market, it sure can be confusing! Especially if you’re just starting out. I know it was for me when I shopped for my first guitar.
Now that I work for Martin, our model names make sense to me. And while our naming conventions have evolved over the past two centuries, we won’t bore you with a history lesson today. Instead, we’ll try to break it down for you, so the names make sense when you are shopping for your new Martin Guitar.
At the end of this post, we’ll share a link to a video that goes into more detail about this topic. Feel free to check it out if you want to clarify anything we’ve covered here.
Let’s get into it!

You’re A True Pennsylvanian...
|
|
If You Can Pronounce These
10 Words The Right Way
Every state has its own lingo, but none is as interesting as Pennsylvania. Ask someone if they’re going to outten the lights before they go dahntahn, and they might look at you as if you’ve sprouted a second head. We can usually spot if the other person is a tried and true Pennsylvanian by the way they speak and, in particular, how they pronounce some of those hard-to-pronounce Pennsylvania
destinations.

Rodrigo y Gabriela
Stairway to Heaven
Since their 2004 debut, Rodrigo y Gabriela have constantly toyed with the wild and wooly rules of instrumental virtuosity.
Beginning as heavy-metal guitarists with chips on their shoulders, the duo took their nylon-string instruments from Mexico City to the streets of Dublin, Ireland, where they began fusing metal and post-nuevo flamenco pyrotechnics with the beauty and pathos of other Latin styles, creating music of astonishing emotional intensity and dynamic range.
By their eponymous second studio album—and U.S. breakthrough—in 2006, Rodrigo y Gabriela even made it okay to cover a song that should never, ever have been played again by anybody: Stairway to Heaven.
And yet the duo boldly imbued that Zeppelin warhorse with a subtlety and sense of adventure rarely heard in those familiar chords.
