Miles Before I Sleep

I had 500 miles to ride before Saturday afternoon meetings at a bicycle race in Knoxville, Tennessee, I was behind in packing, and I needed to find radio cables to work with the promoter’s gear. I was also waiting on stuff being shipped - supposedly by two-day mail - from California that was four days behind schedule. Plus, I wanted to pick up a new helmet. Between work and delayed trip preparations, I was a stress bucket.

Qualifying third, Alexander, who by his own admission was not looking forward to racing at BIR as it not one of his favourites, rode sensibly in the first part of the race, content to take a podium spot rather than risk a crash. However, a red flag meant another chance and Alexander grabbed it with both hands, capitalising on the issues of his rivals to take another victory and in the process extend his championship lead to thirty-three points. His fifth win in a row is his sixth of the season and Alexander has not finished lower than first in the races he has finished – an incredible string of results and a new record in the class!

This Can't Be Right?

Researchers at Yale induced cardiac arrest in some pigs, taking precautions to avoid causing the animals any suffering. The pigs were dead for an hour before something almost miraculous happened—their hearts began to beat again. Cells that had been dead were revived, and began healing themselves.

#46 Breaks Another Record!

Valentino Rossi unveiled a sculpture of a helmet which has broken the Guinness world record for the world’s biggest.

The huge helmet is in Pesaro, a city in Italy near Rossi’s hometown.

At 13 feet in height, by 20 feet in length, the helmet is now in the Guinness Book of Records - like the Doctor himself...

This Mystery Spot is an Odd One, for Sure!

West Virginia is wild, wonderful, and occasionally just plain weird. Going past this odd spot on Route 60 is sure to make you want to stop your car and check out what it’s all about. The Mystery Hole roadside attraction brings to mind a simpler time of family road trips and a sense of adventure. It’s the kind of place you want to visit when the journey means just as much as the destination.

Built in 2002 by local artist Bren Alvarez, the filing cabinet in the first and second picture attached to this post is made up of 38 drawers, with each one representing the number of years of paperwork that Alvarez accumulated while working on a local street project. While Alvarez’s piece proudly claims to be the tallest filing cabinet on Earth, it’s unclear if that is actually the case, since other works of art also claim the same title.
