Although The Backroads report goes around the nation, and the planet for some - we here in New Jersey think we have the best pizza - maybe, maybe New York City could make a case, but New Jersey Digest Magazine begs to differ on this.

New Jerseyans will argue about anything. Taylor Ham or Pork Roll? How about the age-old “Does Central Jersey even exist?” In the early days of the US, there was even a feud amongst East and West New Jerseyans. Arguing is in our blood—plain and simple. However, there is one topic that always brings NJ together and it happens to be one of objective truth: New Jersey has the best pizza in the world.

Please note that Evans Brasfield was a good friend of Backroads, and he was killed on September 13 by a Hit & Run Driver - making this even more poignant. 

On June 23, 2000, my friend and coworker Greg McQuide died in a motorcycle accident. A few weeks later, as I discussed with my mother the effect of Greg’s death on me and everyone who knew and loved him, she said, her voice cracking with the effort, “I don’t know if I could survive if that happened to you.” While I struggled to console her, I remembered a similar situation I faced 18 years earlier.

In my sophomore year of college, a close friend of mine died in a freak helicopter accident. Despite his young age, he was a proficient pilot, logging well over a thousand hours of flight time. At his funeral, his mother asked me, “What was missing from his life that he felt he needed to take these chances?” I had no answer for her. At the age of 20, I had yet to discover the role risk would play in my own life.

The Cave of the Hanging Snakes is actually known as the “Bat Cave” by the locals of the nearby village of Kantemo. This is because the cave is home to swarms of small bats that can often appear as thick as a frantic leathery cloud. In order to take advantage of this delicious flying rodent population, a population of snakes has taken to living in the ceiling and high up on the walls of the cave. From their cracks and crevices, they wait until the bats enter or leave the cavern in a swarm. Then the snakes dangle down and catch the flying bats in their mouths. The snakes do not seem to be put off by the increasing numbers of visitors who come to the cave to see their weird behavior.

In addition to the swarms of bats and dangling serpents, there is also a flooded portion of the cave that houses blind albino crustaceans. It’s possible that this is the creepiest cave in the world. Or at least the one that most resembles a Dungeons and Dragons setting.

The use of guitar in Hotel California can be regarded as one of the classic arrangements in history, especially the 1994 live version. So some deletions were made in the vocal part, focusing on the two guitar solos of the prelude and the ending. Hope you like it!

The costume this time is Wei Jin style wide-sleeved cross-collared Hanfu. For the convenience of plucking the instrument, panbo are added. ( pàn bó, originated from the Song Dynasty, a tool used to roll up the sleeves for easy operation), the hat is a hand-woven straw hat, the overall mix and match looks relatively "plain."

Simply amazing!
