Somewhere West of Cleveland, on the Great Monotony known as the Ohio Turnpike, nature called. She didn’t just call: she commanded me with Shakespearian urgency, “Get thee to a crappery - go!” And that is how, in a nameless I-90 service area, I came to appreciate the nature of space travel.

I dodged the usual collection of minivans and parked. Then, I did “The Dance of the Fully-Geared Motorcyclist Desperate to Get to the John.” Up went the visor, off came the sunglasses, off came the helmet, out came the earplugs, and off…dammit…off…grrrrr…OFF came one sweaty, too-tight glove and then off…dammit!...off…FINALLY!...OFF came the other. Zippers flew open like an Erica Jong novel as I tried to move with both speed and dignity on the way to relief.

We don't think you have much to fear about Lucky 13!

After a year off the 13th Backroads' Summer Squeeze Rally will head back to Southern Vermont, and we have rooms blocked at both the Gray Ghost Inn and the Kitzhof Inn - both just down the road from each other on Route 100, in West Dover, Vermont.

This rally "squeezes" in some great riding during a part of the week that sees the roads of Vermont far more open and free of traffic.

It is simply great riding and so much more fun!

There will be a couple of very neat routes, and maybe a bit of fun & games along with them, along with some evening porch guitar time.

Book today, as our room block is limited and they will go fast!

Unlike The Young Rascals in 1967, I did my groovin’ on a Saturday afternoon ride. Actually, I’ve grooved every time I’ve swung a leg over a motorcycle and gone for a ride, no matter what day of the week it was. So have you.

That’s right, grooving — as in creating a groove or wearing one in. Every time we go for a ride (or perform any other routine activity), we’re reinforcing habits, skills and thought patterns with repetition.

This is going to be a fantastic event just around the corner from Backroads Central.

We know we'll be there, and we hope you join us too.

In addition to so many really great cars, a bunch of awesome bands, and food trucks, there will be one special Japanese Rally Car that bears the BKRDSTI plate as well. Okay, not so special - but ours!

Proceeds to benefit the Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department - who keep a watchful eye on the area and Backroads.

Rochester, New York

Superb Hotel in the Heart of one of New York's Greatest Cities

Recently while traveling in western New York State we spent some time in Rochester. The city has so much to offer. The Strong Museum, some great restaurants and BBQ, a monstrous waterfall in the middle of it all...and the Inn on Broadway as well.

This was a most excellent stay for the night. It has class, history and a feel that you rarely find these days - especially in the middle of a city.

The Inn on Broadway comes highly recommended.
